Since the publication of the second series on Tumors of the Peripheral
Nervous System the spectrum of nerve pathology has markedly expanded: Contents:
Among tumor-like lesions are: reactive processes such as inflammatory
pseudotumor, hyperplastic lesions including palisaded encapsulated
neuroma, and localized hypertrophic neuropathy as well as semi-malformative
processes such as fibrolipomatous hamartoma and neuromuscular choristoma
Among the benign tumors are: cellular schwannoma, a lesion frequently
mistaken for malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, psammomatous
melanotic schwannoma with or without a syndrome association (Carney's
complex), intraneural perineurioma, and neurothekeoma
Also described are such malignant neoplasms as purely epithelioid
malignant peripheral sheath tumor, glandular MPNST, MPNST's derived
from schwannoma and MPNST with perineuraial differentiation
